We are all familiar with waking up feeling achy and stiff at some point. However for some, prolonged morning stiffness is an all-too-common symptom of rheumatoid arthritis, or any other type of inflammatory arthritis. If your day starts off bad then your day is not likely to be much better so here a few easy tips to start your day off right. They may seem simple but they can make a huge difference to your morning.

Heat

We all know heat is a good way to ease the pain of arthritis. So this first tip involves using a heat pad or an electric blanket. Before you get out of bed turn it on for a few minutes, letting it warm up your body and joints.

Stretch tight joints

Next, sit at the edge of your bed before you get up and roll your shoulders and neck gently. In circular motion rotate your wrists and ankles first in one direction then switching direction after a few turns.. This will keep your joints from seizing up. Also doing these exercises before bed could help you wake up feeling less stiff.

Moist Heat

The moist heat can help soothe aching joints so try and incorporate a  quick warm bath or shower into your morning routine. Alternatively you could place a warm wet compress to your problem areas, such as knees.

Keep hydrated

Keep a glass of water beside your bed so you can keep hydrated throughout the night and have a glass straight away in the morning. Also make sure to drink plenty throughout the day.

Take a stroll

Once out of bed, maybe take a short stroll to get your joints moving. Start slowly, don’t push yourself.

Eat right.

This isn’t exactly just limited to breakfast. A positive change in diet can vastly improve how your joints are in the morning. Make sure to include anti-inflammatory like salmon, nuts and berries.
