A woman was charged more than $75 (£50) by a bride and groom for missing their wedding.

Jessica Barker was forced to abandon her plans to attend her friend’s wedding when her babysitter cancelled at the last minute.

Weeks later, she received a bill for $75.90 (£50) for the expensive meal she missed at the ceremony. The bill covered the cost of two meals, plus tax and a service charge.

“The invoice arrived in the mail,” Mrs Baker told NBC/KARE. “My first reaction was just, ‘You’ve got to be kidding me. You’ve got to be kidding me.’”

The letter states “The cost reflects the amount paid by the bride and groom for meals that were RVSPed for, reimbursement and explanation for no show, card, call or text would be appreciated,” the invoice read.

Of course, it has come with mixed feelings. Some people are totally shocked a bride would go so far as to charge a friend. After all life does sometimes get of the way and a wedding is no exception.

On the other hand others sympathise that its stressful planning a wedding. For the couple to spend money on meals and then guests just not turn up without giving any notice is sad. Because not only could that have been a place for someone else it is wasted money and food.

For what it’s worth, Mrs Baker has said she wasn’t planning on paying the newlyweds, who haven’t been identified.
