Sleeping Myths That Are Believed to be True

Sleeping Myths That Are Believed to be True. We have all heard what not to do if you want a good nights sleep, but are they right?

#1 You shouldn’t eat cheese before bed.

We have all heard this number one rule of never eating cheese before bed or it will give you nightmares. This is actually wrong. Studies show that eating cheese before bed will have no effect at all on the majority of people. Plus while most people will be fine, cheese can actually be beneficial to sleep. Cheese has B Vitamins which is known to aid sleep.

#2 You need a minimum 8 hours of sleep.

While it is recommended to get an average of 8 hours of sleep per night we need to recognise that not everyone’s the same. So while some people might get cranky with less than 8 hours, some people can thrive on this. Margret Thatcher the first Woman Prime Minister of England was said to only sleep 4 hours. Also Einstein and Leonardo Da Vinci are known to only sleep a few hours per night and they are some of the most talented people known to man.

#3 Napping during the day is bad

Again this has been found to be false. You can easily slip in a power nap into your routine without ruining your sleep at night. It all depends on how long you nap for, and at what time you take the nap. However round the world siestas are very popular and so debunk this sleeping myth.

#4 you shouldn’t read before bed

Some people say that reading before bed will affect your sleep. Much like you shouldn’t watch TV or use electronics. This is only true if you stay up till the early hours. However reading is very calming and for most people it can be an aid in helping the fall asleep quickly.
