Retired Lab Chimps Step Outside for the First Time.

This Rescued Chimp Who Spent His Entire Life In a Lab Is Released Outside For The First Time.

Although animal testing on Chimpanzees has provided life-changing medical breakthroughs for human beings, the sad reality is that these animals live out their lives in cages – denied a natural existence.

While in captivity, they were never allowed outside or allowed socialized with other chimps. They were essentially prisoners. A Nonprofit  organisation called  “Humane Society of the United States” is actively rescuing 1000’s of these ageing chimps, some of which are over 50 years old.

Unfortunately it would be unsafe to let them out into the wild at their age. So they have set up a safe home for the freed chimps at a place called Chimp Haven. This sanctuary allows them to explore nature and form social bonds that they were deprived of before.

The moment you see one of the chimps released is utterly heartbreaking. The look on his face when he gets his first view of the sky, is truly breathtaking.

Although nothing can make up for their imprisoned lab conditions, the fact that they will be able to enjoy the rest of their lives in this natural habitat is heartwarming.
