Prediabetes is a warning sign that you need to change your lifestyle.

Prediabetes is a medical condition where a person’s blood sugar is constantly higher than normal, but not high enough to be full blown type 2 diabetes. Insulin is needed to regulate the bodies sugar levels. Prediabetes can occur because your body may not be making or using the hormone insulin properly which then causes too much glucose (sugar) to build up in your blood. 

Therefore, this can be very harmful to your body over time. If you have some of these signs or symptoms they must not be ignored.

The most common signs are:

Increased appetite – feeling hungry straight after eating a meal, is due to the sugar still in the blood your body not getting what it needs.
Frequent urination and increased thirst – constantly feeling thirsty is a major sign. Therefore your body will crave water to try and help flush the extra sugar out in your urine.
Fatigue – constantly feeling tired and drained is because your body is not getting the right fuel from the foods you are eating.
Blurred vision – prediabetes/diabetes can cause eye problems.
Skin problems – dark areas of skin on your neck, armpits, elbows or knees is a sign that there are increased levels of insulin in the blood.

In fact, There are a multitude of reasons why someone might have prediabetes and some contributing factors for example;
– weight
– diet
– lack of activity
– age
– family history

Most importantly, in most cases prediabetes can be reversed so if you spot the signs and act fast you can stop this progressing any further.

Prevention
In conclusion, you don’t need to overhaul your life to get results. Start slowly by making a few changes and striving towards a healthier lifestyle.
– eat lots of healthy food, make sure to get a balanced diet and get your 5 a day.
– maintain a healthy weight and try and shed any excess weight.
– exercise at least 30 minutes a day.
