A man arrived at a hotel with his mistress, expecting to enjoy a secret rendezvous. But as soon as he pulled up to the entrance, he spotted his father-in-law’s car parked outside.
Panic set in. The last thing he wanted was to be caught with another woman by his wife’s father. Thinking quickly, he told his mistress that something had come up and they would have to leave.
His disappointed companion went on her way, leaving him alone with his anger and frustration. Still furious at the unexpected turn of events, he decided to take his resentment out on his father-in-law’s car. Before leaving, he smashed both side mirrors, convinced he was getting even without anyone discovering what had happened.
Feeling somewhat satisfied, he headed home as though nothing unusual had occurred.
The following day, he visited his father-in-law. Eager to share what he considered a clever act of revenge, he brought up the damaged car, expecting his father-in-law to be furious about the vandalism.

Curious, he asked, “What’s wrong? Why do you look so angry?”
His father-in-law sighed and explained, “Yesterday, I lent my car to my wife. When she brought it back, both side mirrors were missing!”
The man froze.
In his haste to vent his anger, he’d never stopped to consider that his father-in-law might not have been the person driving the car—or that the consequences of his actions could come back to haunt him.
