DIY Natural Air Freshener

Looking for a cleaner, more natural way to freshen up your living space? Ditch the chemical sprays and try this easy homemade air freshener made with ingredients you probably already have at home. It’s eco-friendly, budget-friendly, and—best of all—toxin-free.

Why Go Natural?

Unlike store-bought sprays, this air freshener:

  • Neutralizes odors without harsh chemicals
  • Adds a bright, clean scent with mint and lemon
  • Creates a warm, cozy vibe with cinnamon
  • Can be customized with your favorite essential oils or dried herbs
  • Is safe for your family, pets, and fabrics (with a quick spot test)

What You’ll Need:

  • 300 ml warm water
  • 1 tbsp dried peppermint or a few drops of peppermint essential oil
  • 1 tbsp dried flowers (lavender or chamomile) or a few drops of lavender essential oil
  • 100 ml natural lemon juice (fresh or bottled)
  • ½ tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 spray bottle (dark glass preferred to preserve oils)
  • Fine sieve and funnel

How to Make It:

Step 1:
Heat the 300 ml of water until warm (not boiling).
Add dried mint and dried flowers.
Let steep for 10–15 minutes to release their natural aromas.

Step 2:
Strain the mixture through a fine sieve to remove all solids.

Step 3:
In a clean bowl, mix the herbal liquid, lemon juice, and cinnamon.
Stir well until the cinnamon is fully dissolved.

Step 4:
(Optional) Add a few drops of peppermint or lavender essential oil for a stronger, longer-lasting scent.

Step 5:
Using a funnel, pour the mixture into your spray bottle.
Shake well before each use.

Pro Tips:

  • Shelf life: Use within 2 weeks. Store in a cool, dark place.
  • Customize it: Try orange & rosemary for energy, or vanilla & clove for warmth.
  • Test first: When using on fabrics, always spot test to avoid staining.
  • On the go: Great for freshening up your car, pillows, curtains, or pet areas.
