Couple Uses Variations Of The Same 4 Letters To Name Every One Of Their 11 Kids
A couple in Belgium has captured global attention for their unique baby-naming tradition: all 11 of their children have names made from just four letters — A, E, L, and X.
Gwenny Blanckaert and Marino Vaneeno, parents to seven girls and four boys, began the pattern with their first two children, whom they named Alex and Axel. Realizing both names used the same four letters, the couple decided to stick with that limited alphabet for all future kids.
“We thought Alex was a great first name, and then we called our second child Axel,” Gwenny said.
“We realized they were the same letters, so we decided to continue like this.”
Since then, they’ve welcomed nine more children, each with a unique four-letter name using only A, E, L, and X. The current sibling lineup includes:
Eldest child Alex is 13, followed by Axel, 12, Xela, 11, Lexa, 10, Xael, nine, Xeal, eight, Exla , five, Leax , four, Xale, two, Elax, one, and six-month-old Alxe.
The naming tradition has understandably caused some confusion — especially at school. With five of the siblings attending the same institution, teachers often struggle to keep the names straight. But according to Gwenny and Marino, it’s not nearly as difficult as it sounds.
And the family isn’t done yet. Gwenny and Marino are expecting their 12th child in April 2022 — and they fully intend to continue the four-letter naming formula.
Since there are 24 possible combinations of the letters A, E, L, and X, the couple still has 13 unused name variations to choose from.
Their unusual naming approach first made headlines a few years ago when they had nine children. Now, with their growing family back in the spotlight, the internet can’t get enough of their alphabetical baby name challenge.
